Discussion:
I don't go out every night and sleep all day, I have to listen to this old chart from 1990

Nothing very topical here - BBC4 are of course repeating TotP from much
further into 1990 - but I think there should be at least one single in
here Paul likes. And we almost have Dionne and Dion together.

first released by The Family, though a Prince version was later released}

36. (33) Kym Mazelle Was That All It Was {original by Jean Carn}
40. (28) Megadeth No More Mr Nice Guy {cover of Alice Cooper}

I mainly associate this with Capital doing an "expose" of how many
formats had been released. Perhaps the fans couldn't afford to buy any
more singles after this one?

Yeah, I was thinking that with him and Eric Clapton next to each other
in this chart, at this point they were still considered to be mainstream
acts, having hits and appearing on he same radio playlists as Adamski
and Lonnie Gordon.

Yep, single released in November 1989 (though obviously the album had
been out for a while) but you can see why it would be either a summer or
a Christmas single really.

81. (NE) Barry Manilow If I Can Dream
Didn't realise he was still doing singles, thought he was all-albums at
this time.
Well, it was only Number 81!
At this point a lot of "heritage" acts would still have to release
singles to promote their albums even if they didn't expect the singles
themselves to be hits. His only Top 40 hits in the 90s were re-releases
though.

84. (72) Gwen Dickey Car Wash
Why did she re-release a song that she'd been lead singer of in a group?
Rights issues for an advert or something like that?
Surely a rights thing, it looks like there are some remixes of this so I
guess they weren't able to clear the original. She doesn't seem to have
released a solo album at this time.

Confusingly, the original version was later re-released credited to
"Rose Royce featuring Gwen Dickey".

Very lyrically clever
Sadly Mary Wilson, who is mentioned in those lyrics, died earlier this
week which we should acknowledge.
